New council homes

We're working hard to build new affordable homes in Dacorum. A strategy to build at least 300 new homes between 2013 and 2020 was launched in November 2013 and we are on track to deliver this.

Latest developments

Old School Crescent and Old School House, Boxted Road, Hemel Hempstead

The site of this former primary school in Boxted Road will provide around 65 new homes. This will consist of 19 one- and two-bedroom flats for social rent and 44 two-and three-bedroom houses for a mix of social rent and market sale.

Bugler Group has been appointed as the main contractor and work is progressing well. Completion is expected in summer 2020.

Old School Crescent and Old School House development

Magenta Court, London Road, Apsley

This multi-award-nominated canalside project comprises 29 one- and two-bedroom flats, all for social rent. The development is next to the old Apsley Paper Mill buildings and the Grand Union Canal.

Jarvis Contracting Ltd has been appointed as the main contractor and work is progressing well. Completion is expected in spring 2020.

Magenta Court development

Williams House, Northend and Howe Grove House, Westerdale, Hemel Hempstead

Northend and Westerdale are two former council garage sites that are currently under development. They will provide 12 flats to support our residents in need of temporary accommodation. There will be 10 two-bedroom and two one-bedroom flats.

FSG has been appointed as the main contractor for both sites and completion is expected in spring 2020.

Planned developments 2019-2023

Eastwick Row, Adeyfield, Hemel Hempstead

This new seven-storey apartment development, plus two houses, will provide council homes for social rent. A planning application has been submitted and, if successful, works are expected to start in 2020.

Westdene, Gaddesden Row

This small development consists of three two-bedroom council homes for social rent in the rural area of Gaddesden Row. The site is designed to complement the adjacent housing association site, bringing much-needed social homes for local residents.

Completed developments

Kylna Court, Maylands (completed January 2019)

This site is former industrial land in Maylands Avenue, Hemel Hempstead. The project for 79 new council homes for social rent was completed in January 2019 and we are pleased that all residents have now settled into their new homes. There are 42 one-bedroom and 37 two-bedroom flats, as well as eight business units and a reception area on the ground floor. This new Kylna Business Centre supplements and supports the successful Maylands Business Centre.

Corn Mill Court, Berkhamsted (completed September 2019)

This new council home development in Swing Gate Lane, Berkhamsted, consists of six one-bedroom and three two-bedroom flats all for social rent. In addition, the three existing homes next to the development have also been refurbished and allocated as new council homes. The development was completed in autumn 2019 and our residents are enjoying their new homes.
