Dacorum Climate Action Network
Dacorum Climate Action Network (Dacorum CAN) brings together local individuals and organisations to ‘think global and act local’.
The aim of the network is to bring about meaningful change and provide a platform that will support, educate, encourage and enable people to make positive environmental changes in their everyday lives. These collective actions will help to tackle the Climate and Ecological Emergency by reducing emissions and increasing biodiversity.

A recent flagship Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report gave the world a stark "code red" warning and confirmed that climate change is happening, it is caused by human activity, and we have a very short window of time to take action and mitigate against the worst impacts.
It is important that we collectively take action to reduce our emissions as quickly as we can. The more individuals and organisations who work together and take action, the more we can achieve.
By joining the network, regular environmental information and advice will be provided via:

Climate and Ecological Emergency Art Exhibition
Throughout November 2021, we held a Climate and Ecological Emergency art exhibition showcasing local artists' sketches, paintings, photos and poems that they submitted throughout October.
The exhibition was at the Dacorum Creatives Gallery in the Marlowes Shopping Centre, Hemel Hempstead. If you did not make it to the exhibition, you can take a look at the wonderful range of inspirational artwork here: Virtual Climate and Ecological Emergency Art Exhibition (PDF 11MB).
The exhibition was held in partnership with Herts Visual Arts and aimed to encourage visitors to reflect on the challenges that lie ahead of us, but also provide an opportunity to learn about the available solutions, and inspire people to get involved in local action.
On Wednesday 3 November 2021, Dacorum Climate Action Network held its first annual event, to coincide with COP26 - the global climate change conference.
The event had a diverse range of speakers and stall holders, ranging from small local groups to national organisations. They discussed what action is happening locally to tackle the Climate and Ecological Emergency, and how people can get involved. Around 130 people attended the event, which was held in person, as well as being streamed so that people could watch online.
Physical attendees were able to network with others, enjoy the plant-based buffet, make pledges to help reduce their carbon footprint, and get a first glimpse of the artwork submitted for the Climate and Ecological Emergency Exhibition.
Read more about the event, or watch recordings of the speakers. Official photos from the night can be found on the Dacorum CAN Facebook page, and you can also view the speakers' presentation slides:

We want to showcase individuals and organisations who are working hard within the borough to take positive environmental actions. If that sounds like you, or someone you know, we want to know more so that we can share their story with the network.
